Demerara Distillers Limited yesterday announced the release of its El Dorado Single Still aged rums. The new releases include the El Dorado Single Still Enmore (EHP), the El Dorado Single Still Port Mourant (PM) and the El Dorado Single Still Versailles (VSG).
These rums are a selection of pure single-distillate Demerara Rums, produced using three of our highly-prized heritage stills, and then aged in oak barrels for 12 years. These individual marques, each possessing its own distinctive character, have traditionally been blended, in our award winning range of El Dorado aged rums. Now they can be savoured in their purest form, unblended, to reveal their individually diverse and rich flavours.
The El Dorado Single Still Enmore Rum is produced from the original EHP Wooden Continuous Coffey Still that was first constructed at the Enmore Estate in 1880. This still was named after the original owner of the Enmore Sugar Plantation Edward Henry Porter, and was based on the original design of its inventor, Irishman Aeneas Coffey. With the closure of the estate in 2000, this still was moved to Diamond Estate. It is the last surviving wooden still operating in the world today.
The El Dorado Single Still Port Mourant Rum is produced from the Double Wooden Pot Still which is the only one of its kind still in use today. Constructed in 1732 on the Port Mourant Estate, this still was later moved to the Uitvlugt Estate and then to Diamond Estate in 2000. Since then, the Double Wooden Pot Still has been producing small batches of this El Dorado Heritage Rum.
The 18th Century estate at Plantation Versailles, then owned by the French family L’Amirault, was situated on the west bank of the Demerara River and was famous for its golden rum. Distilled on the Single Wooden Pot Still, the El Dorado Single Still Versailles is coloured with caramel prior to ageing in oak barrels for 12 years. This rum celebrates the smooth chocolately palate of a fine aged rum.
The El Dorado Single Still rums can be found in the Caribbean and North America at this time.
